Welcome

Every unaccompanied minor needs representation able to make decisions in the best interest of the child. Especially single asylum-seeking children, as they are more vulnerable. Guardians across Europe provide this representation.

Guardianship means exercising the authority of supervising these young people on their way to adulthood and the promotion of their interests. The guardian provides long term continued care and has the responsibility for the mental and physical well-being of the child and the furtherance of the development of his or her personality. The guardianship counselling aims to make children independent at the age of majority. The European Network of Guardianship Institutions can help guardians and guardianship organisations provide better services and help policy makers be better informed about unaccompanied minors and guardianship.

The foundation of ENGI has been initiated by NIDOS Foundation from the Netherlands and Refugium from Germany. It has been made possible by the European Commission and the European Programme for Integration and Migration (EPIM).
